To celebrate 75 years of legendary jazz and design, Sonos partnered with Blue Note Records to create its first-ever co-branded product. A limited-edition PLAY:1 speaker and immersive experience were developed to honor shared values—sound, craft, and cultural legacy.
Objective:
Commemorate Blue Note’s 75th anniversary and elevate Sonos’ role in music culture through a limited edition product that fuses sound, design, and storytelling—deepening the emotional connection between brand and listener.
Approach:

1. Define the creative direction and design strategy for the brand partnership

2. Create the visual identity and limited-edition branding for the PLAY:1

3. Design packaging and print collateral that honor Blue Note’s visual legacy

4. Art direct the Born in Blue documentary series—from visual narrative to on-screen storytelling

5. Execute the brand across all touchpoints to ensure consistency and impact

Designing Born in Blue was about more than celebrating an anniversary—it was about honoring legacy through form, story, and sound. By fusing Blue Note’s bold visual heritage with Sonos’ design-led ethos, we created a limited edition that felt both timeless and contemporary. It wasn’t just about what it looked like—it was about what it sounded like.
